No datacentres for hyperscalers

AI datacentres to be used by US hyperscalers are being built across Australia at a pace that governments are struggling to keep up with, and the costs are being passed on to everyone else.

These facilities are not like ordinary datacentres. They consume extraordinary amounts of power, water, and land. Each one triggers a construction project that competes directly with local infrastructure, housing, and essential services. When the grid strains under the load, it’s households and small businesses that will feel it first.

We constantly hear only the supposed benefits of AI datacentre investment. Low job numbers, the pressure on electricity supply, the drain on water resources - none of these rate a serious mention in the government’s enthusiasm for this buildout.

Equally concerning is we risk letting any profits from these polluting and resource-draining datacentres flow to massive US hyperscaler companies like Meta, Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

Join our campaign for ’no datacentres for hyperscalers’ now to demand that governments put community needs ahead of hyperscaler profit.
